Master Studio
Deviant Architectures
Under the title ‘Deviant Architectures’ the Master Studio explores alternatives and experimental approaches for project developments based on the urban morphology of the ‘Berlin Block’. Deriving from the analysis of contemporary references three different building types (the center, the school, the coop) are investigated serving as models for the design of deviant block-types. As the main characteristics of the perimeter block pertains to the formation of an animated street-scape, deviant variations of the Berlin Block are aiming at the development of new forms of urbanity. While the reformulation of structural and programmatic determinants are considered key aspects for the creation of alternative building types, deviant architectures are also seen as proto-types for urban spaces that are able to house the various manifestations and conflicts of future urban societies.
